This photo of the Ponte Sant'Angelo (as viewed from the Castel) was completed in 134 AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian, to span the Tiber, from the city center to his newly constructed mausoleum. The ten statues of angels that adorn the bridge were added much later. They were designed in 1668 by the great sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
