030 of 152. The Castel Sant’Angelo was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian and erected on the right bank of the Tiber, between 123 AD and 139 AD. It was originally built as a mausoleum for himself and his family. Over time the building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. The Castel was once the tallest building in Rome. | |||
