010 of 123. This bronze inscription in Signora square marks the spot where on May 1498, Girolamo Savonarola and two other friars were hanged and burned as heretics. He is best known for his attempt to reform Renaissance Florence society and the Catholic church from the vices of modern life as he knew them. He was excommunicated by Pope Alexander VI who demanded his arrest and execution. | |||
