Story has it that a rich nobleman, Don Pietro di Toledo, wanted a fancy fountain for his daughter’s villa. The sculptor created an insanely detailed & enormous fountain that was too big for the villa garden. Palermo made an offer to purchase it and had all 644 pieces shipped to Piazza Pretoria, facing City Hall. It became a symbol of civic pride. But not everyone was thrilled... |
