097 of 226. Later, we took a walk to Castello Ursino, one of the royal castles of Emperor Frederick II, King of Sicily. It was originally built between 1239 and 1250 on a cliff overlooking the sea, but due to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, it is now nearly a mile inland. The former moat too in the 17th century was filled with lava from an eruption by Mount Etna. The Castle was acquired by the city of Catania in 1932, and restored. It now serves as a Civic Museum.
