Situated near a corner of Piazza del Duomo is the Fontana dell'Amenano (The Amenano Fountain) Constructed in 1867 by Neapolitan sculptor Tito Angelini, the fountain was commissioned to celebrate the Amenano River, a hidden underground river flowing beneath the city. The river's passage was buried by the eruption and lava flow of 1669, but can still be seen at this fountain.
