	022 of 226. The Elephant is the official symbol of the city of Catania. The Elephant Fountain monument stands in the center of the plaza. Thanks to an old legend, it is said that during the Late Stone Age, a small elephant lived in the city and protected the first population of Catania from 'all fierce and dangerous animals'. The statue of the elephant is made of volcanic lava stone.
