130 of 152. The Fontana del Tritone (Triton Fountain) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, is a seventeenth-century fountain (1642-43) at the Piazza Barberini. Because the piazza was close to where the Acqua Felice (aqueduct) entered the city, after flowing over 20 miles from its source and accumulating pressure all along the way, Bernini had a tremendous amount of water pressure at his disposal. This enabled his Fountain of Triton to emit a forceful jet of water that was the highest in Rome at the time. | |||
