108 of 158. On our way back to the apartment, we stopped at the Monument, which stands as a reminder of the great fire of 1666. It was built between 1671 and 1677. The Great Fire began in a bakery owned by the King’s baker and lasted four days, destroying one third of all the buildings in London. It took almost fifty years to rebuild the burnt area of the City. | |||
