This is the original weather vane that crowned the top of the tower above city hall. It was placed there in 1453. When the winds blow in Florence from the south-eastern quadrants, there is a good chance that it will rain. So when a strong breeze comes from this direction, the lion faces the river Arno, and hence the saying. | |||
